RICCARTON BUSH TRIP by Abbie and Emma

On Tuesday we went to Riccarton Bush. We saw so many types of leaves and trees. We learnt about skeleton leaves. Skeleton leaves are normal leaves but instead of dying the outer layer peels off, leaving the skeleton behind. We had to pair up and try to find as many different leaves as we could, off the ground. As well as skeleton leaves, we found spotty leaves, hotakara, a broken egg shell, some tree fungi, some bark from a tree and even a leaf that was half skeleton (which reminds us of a mask from Phantom of the Opera). We found a small tree, which was wrapped around itself.

At Riccarton Bush we went into Dean's Cottage. It was small, with only three rooms, plus a small hallway. When we got to the grove we tried to identify our leaves. We chose to take two each back to school, but we took more to show the class.

Athletics day
Athletics day is on Wednesday. Remember to bring a water bottle, suitable running shoes, a hat, sun screen and your house colours.
