BLOG REPORT by Grace and Armand

In two weeks from now at Ilam School, Ilam School is having a Hangi at 5.30. There's vegetarian too! Hangi is traditionally food cooked by Maori in a pit under the ground in special ovens called 'Hangi'. Hopefully you ordered a Hangi meal.

This week on sporty Friday, we had photos for the winter sports teams. Also on the sport reports, the Ilam Thunder basketball team will be playing off for first and second place, against St Andrews College at 4.30. The Celtics are playing Middleton Grange for third and fourth at 3.45pm.

OUR ART WEEK by Marthajoy and Aditya

On Monday 21st August we went to the Art Gallery. We went to the education room and we were going to make a piece of art. So we went off for 25 minutes in the gallery to get some inspiration. We saw some tremendous art pieces. After that we made some art and everybody did a good job.

Room 3 did some penguin art. We used some paint for the background, hill and the snow. We also used some potato to make the penguin, then we used some googly eyes. Everyone did two or three penguins sliding or standing on the hill.

WEEKLY POST BY NETHIRA AND ZAC

We've been working on Banks Peninsula with our teacher Mrs Knowles.

We have used a whole bunch of different colours. The main colours we have used are a variety of green, brown and blue.

This is Felix's science volcano;

He has used:
a quarter of a cup of baking soda (ice cream scoop)
funnel
5ml white vinegar
5 drops of each colour of food colouring (red and orange)
1 mentose lollie

Felix's volcano didn't work the first time but with a bit of brain power it worked the next time, problem solving!

WRITING

We have been looking at a James K Baxter poem and have used it as a model to write our own.

The holidays were usual enough, they had
A lake with no fish, a bucket of lego, a blank canvas, a light dusting of cornflour and even an Escaped bunny which took under a day to find.
My mum dad and I did what all families do, fished with fruitless results, made lego sculptures, Created planet hoth using cornflour, painted abstract pictures and made missing bunny posters
Doing nothing important.

The holidays were usual enough
They had a boat, a lake, an amazing
Sunset, and even a long and rough
Biscuit ride. My family and I did what
Any family does, took long naps on the
Boat, made swords out of sticks, bows out
Of flax and even had an ice cream food fight
Doing nothing important.

By Brodie

The holidays were usual enough; they had
A cold lake, boring Saturday's, snow, ice in beautiful shapes
And even, cold lakes and
Skimming stones. My grandparents, mother, siblings and I
Did what family do - go on vacation in a great low light pollution place
Played in the snow, and felt incredibly ill, read books by a fire,
Met ponies, ditched the car and went by bus,
Bought two chocolate bars when we were supposed to buy one, had two servings of hot Chocolate, made an amazing snowman that people came and took photos of
Doing nothing important.

By Ron

The holidays were usual enough, they had
A warehouse with a faulty system, a wrong sized bed sheet, a bad internet connection
A broken swing and even a garden patch that wasn’t growing.
My parents and I went to the warehouse, ate food,
Visited a retirement village, did ICAS
Doing nothing important.

The holidays were usual enough; they had

An astounding zoo, a frigid pool, a grassy park and even terribly terrific taekwon-do

Lessons. My dad, Mum, siblings and I did what holidaymakers do - shivered on

Long numbing walks each raw morning, played thrilling games every day, dreaded and

Could not wait until the start of a new school term, went to perfectly positive partys,

Walked to the market, dozed and read comics, argued and wrote
Doing nothing important.

Katie

Soyo was usual enough; it had delicious yogurt,
Thousands of toppings, spoons, three sizes of cups,
And even a selfie camera. My friends, their parents
And I did what us girls usually do, go nuts with the selfie cam,
Eat all the lollies we could, made a mountain of flavoured Yogurt, giggled at things we shouldn't have,
Sang along to lady gaga
Doing nothing important.
